Church Road Hawke's Bay Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

This wine was a real surprise in a vertical of this long time favourite. The dark berry fruit flavours were quite intense along with spicy, fruitcake aromas and touches of leather indicating the dominance of Merlot.  On the palette there were maturation characters which gave the wine an additional dimension to its complexity.  This was a great wine with 6 years cellaring, but it would still go longer.
