Vynfields’ vineyard is a boutique organic/biodynamic 5.3 hectare vineyard on the celebrated Martinborough Terraces. Vynfields is located on Omarere Road (off Puruatanga Road). The soils are free-draining with a thin layer of silt loam over old river gravels. The temperate climate has low rainfall, hot and dry summer days, and reliably dry autumns (with cool nights) which makes the Martinborough Terraces an ideal location for the cool climate grapes of Pinot Noir and Riesling.

The vineyard was originally planted in 1991 with 1 hectare of Riesling and 3 hectares of miscellaneous vines. John and Kaye replaced the latter by Martinborough proven Pinot Noir in 1998.

Lynfields are fully certified by BioGro NZ in 2006. Sprays and fertilizers used include, seaweed extracts, fish meal, sodium silicate, calcium and the Bio-Dynamic preparations.

The Vynfields’ owners John Bell and Kaye McAulay are devoted to producing premium Pinot Noir and Riesling wines, handcrafted using traditional methods. Vynfields first awards include a Gold medal at the Royal Easter Wine Show for the 2003 Pinot Noir and a Gold medal (and Best wine in the Riesling class) at the Bragato Wine Awards for our 2004 Classic Riesling. Our latest awards include Gold and Best In Class for our Reserve Pinot Noir 09 at the London International wine show and a Gold in Decanter for our Pinot Noir 09. Every one of our Pinot Noirs has had at least a five star award or a Gold medal.
